My mom’s Acadia, after 160,000 miles and multiple thousand-dollar repairs, has had enough.
She wants more power (which means pretty much anything)
Must be Crossover/SUV
-Probably midsize
RELIABLE MOST OF ALL!!
Good gas mileage
Low price without sacrificing reliability
Concessions to fun are not required - we already have the fun car.
Im thinking a Highlander or CRV. Just a no-nonsense A-B crossover.
In the meantime, she’s renting this sweet new Yukon! We temporarily have a double-V8 household.

Forester XT will definitely mend the speed problem.

Lexus RX. New/used are equally as reliable.

And they are fairly quick.

That V6 is a great engine. Too bad it gets stuck in such boring cars. That said, the new RX isn't hateful to drive given what it is.

CR-V, RAV4, Escape/Lincoln MKC, and CX-5, though those are compact, not midsize. If she can’t find something satisfactory out of those, then Ford Edge/Lincoln MKX, Toyota Venza, Lexus RX, or Jeep Grand Cherokee for a midsize.

Whatever you do, prioritize color. Find a blue or burgundy so that the vehicle stays special and unique rather than a white, black, or silver (which you’ll see everywhere).
I’ll also throw in the Toyota Venza. It is incredibly large, well made, and strongly designed on the inside. They are unique, most are low mileage, and well kept. I think it’s better than a Volvo XC60 by every metric. The Lexus RX is a great vehicle, but unless you find one in blue or burgundy, she’ll hate seeing it everywhere.

Really lacking on power

2015 CX9s are about to be WAY on sale.
Otherwise, just go for the Highlander

CRV way to underpowered, unless the recently started offering a V6
RAV 4 with the 3.5 is a rocket
My money would be on a MKC 2.3 Ecoboost, the interior is hands down class leader, seriously, open pore wood that you can feel the grain and leather everywhere p

We were faced in the exact same scenario a few moths ago. My dads 2011 Acadia had the crankshaft and timing chain go out last year. we repaired it and traded it in on a used 2014 highlander limited platinum. Great car and no complaints so far.
